A Car Enthusiast's Garage May 22, 2015 | FERNDALE, MI
In this project, we were asked to designing a functional 2-car garage for an automobile enthusiast who also needed space to accommodate his love of working on cars. The garage required storage space as well as a separate room to control noise that would emanate from the air compressor. Sufficient headroom was required in a portion of the garage to allow the use of a hoist. In other areas, the headroom was used for loft storage. The garage is heated with ceiling-mounted infrared radiant tube heaters and ample fluorescent lighting, coupled with an abundance of natural light, make the space a pleasure to work in year around. We particularly enjoyed the challenge of developing a building of sufficient size to accommodate the owner's needs while meeting all of the strict zoning requirements associated with constructing the building on a small urban lot.
